[edit] History

Gresham's was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham, who had been Lord Mayor of London in 1547-1548. Upon his death, the School was placed in the care of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, one of the 'Great Twelve' livery companies of the City of London. Strong links with the City of London remain to the present day.

For three hundred and fifty years, the School was based in the former manor house of Holt in the town's market place, until it relocated to a new campus on the edge of Holt in the early twentieth century. Under the direction of Headmaster George Howson, Gresham's embraced a forward looking ethos, with a progressive and modern curriculum emphasising the sciences and sport at a time when classical thought largely predominated.

The School still has a contemporary outlook today, with the construction of first rate facilities such as the Auden Theatre and the adoption of new programmes such as the International Baccalaureate. Its modern outlook combines with a supportive environment and a committed staff to encourage each child to excel and offers a unique educational experience.
